Rihanna has often been a front row fixture at Dior‘s shows and her close relationship with Raf Simons and Dior has led to her becoming the first Black woman to be the face of the brand!
I mentioned a few months back that Rihanna was named the new face of Christian Dior’s Secret Garden video campaign. She is the latest celebrity to star in the video series (following Charlize Theron, Natalie Portman, Marion Cotillard and Jennifer Lawrence). Her campaign, that will drop May 18, was shot in Versailles by the legendary Steven Klein, and the images were just released!
In the striking photos, the Bad Gal stuns in her signature crimson lip, in several Rihanna-worthy looks, including a fur crop top and a shimmering sequin gown. And of course, front and center were covet-worthy Dior accessories like the currently popular So Real sunglasses, a Christian Dior Diorama flap bag in silver-tone perforated calfskin “Cannage” motif, Dior Tribale Earrings and a Large Diorama bag in Embroidered and Quilted Black Calfskin.
Dior CEO Sidney Toledano talked about why Rihanna was selected: “In this short movie, [Rihanna] knew how to work with Versailles. She has this kind of elegance — we saw it from the very first moment — and then she can surprise. She can be unexpected and we like it. It’s part of this personality.”
Over the past few years, Rihanna has been tapped to model for various brands (like Balmain) and in numerous magazine spreads and editorial features (W Mag and most recently, Harper’s Bazaar). She’s proven so much that she can hang with big dogs of the modeling world and it seems like her career is heading more into that direction. I love her music but she can model with the best of them!
